SONS

SONS is a support group for Gay men of color who were denied acceptance by their families, and who struggle with mental health. SONS, together with HER are part of the I Am Working On Healing program.

In My Mind Mental Health Conference

IMM Conference focuses on issues impacting the mental health of LGBTQ+ Black and peoples of color to collaboratively share knowledge and information among clinicians, academicians, community members, advocates, activists, and students. The next edition, focused on migrants’ mental health, is scheduled for October 2024.

YANA - The Film

You Are Not Alone (YANA) interviewed Black gay men, mental health professionals, and religious leaders to document the psychosocial and sociocultural factors contributing to depression and (that led to) suicide attempts. While the film celebrated its 10th anniversary in November 2022, the themes and issues it raised remain relevant.

HER

Helping Everywoman Restore (HER), is a support group for mothers and mother-like figures of color who lost sons to suicide or violence. HER, together with SONS are part of the I Am Working On Healing program.

LGBTQ+ POC Global South Summit

LGBTQ+ Black and peoples of color living in Central and South America, the Caribbean, the Middle East and North Africa, Africa, Asia and South-East Asia, Australia and the Pacific Islands come together under the theme “Our Expressions - Moving Toward Inclusivity”. Over six weeks in May and June 2021, they told their stories.

Ancestral Institute

Examines, raises, discusses and attempts to meld ancestral and traditional healing practices with contemporary mental health psychological constructs and paradigms to create an identifiable form of mental health care for Black and people of color, from a “whole person” type of treatment, rather than any singular/individual symptomatic perspective.
